Alaska and Beyond Sale: Summer Adventures from $39 Each Way! > Expires 6/28/09
This looks very appealing to me right now as most of the nation's midsection is in a triple digit heat wave. I love Alaska for otter watching, fishing and hiking. Homer, Alaska is a hippie and halibut fishing haven where anyone can camp on the Spit that extends into Kachemak Bay. Of course as of this writing it was 50 degrees and cloudy with a chance of rain, but that sounds great when faced with two more months of 100 degree days here in Texas ya'll.
When I went fishing in Homer some years back it was with my father in law who sounds like Foghorn Leghorn ,my mother in law the ice queen and my now ex husband. Fishing for halibut is like pulling up a table from 300 feet below the surface of the water. But, I will say I had Halibut for a good long time after that trip and the otters were the cutest ever. Make sure if you go to request black out curtains in your accommodations because it is light most of the time in the summer.
Cool Movies
If you can't afford the trip to Alaska then take a trip to the movies at the very least this week to beat the heat. The Proposal starring Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, and Betty White among others is a cute chick flick/date movie that takes place in Alaska and New York City. I believe they actually substituted Maine for Alaska though. No heavy plot here just some good laughs and hopefully an ice cold theater. Up is another good escape and yes a cartoon about an old person that made me cry.

And In the End
Whatever you do to escape the heat of your daily grind, remember a vacation is a time to revitalize and re energize which will definitely help you keep your cool. Some folks are hesitating to even ask for well deserved time off for fear they will be seen as expendable in this economy. You won't do yourself or the company any good if you don't recharge your batteries so to speak. Remember loves, life is a journey, stay packed. Ciao for now, Maggie
