Sometimes being a tourist in your own city, or at least the city of your birth can give you a whole new perspective on things. There was a time when visitors would come from out of town for Thanksgiving or some other holiday and I would not know what to show them besides the Kennedy Assassination site (depressing and really a bummer that the first thing they thought of when coming to Dallas was that fateful day). Then the West End came about, later Victory Park and now I believe Dallas has finally arrived. The Dallas Arts District opened with much fanfare a few weeks ago and I believe it is well deserved. The museums, the sculpture garden, the theatrical venues and the new restaurants all make me feel like soaking up culture like I do when I travel to London, Paris, Chicago or New York. Dallas truly does have a world class arts district...one worth making a special trip to see and experience.
And now on to the travel deals...
For the next 10 days or so there are some excellent rates available in the travel industry and then again for a couple of weeks after Thanksgiving the deals are on again. Here are some soon to expire specials that are ripe for the picking:
AirTran Airways U.S. Flights from $39 one-way! ends 11/10

And In the End
I hope by now my brother has broken the news to the Octogenarian that he will not be travelling to the Texas coast for Thanksgiving. The birthday visit was too much for everyone but Dad, and now, my bro and sister soul jah really need to take care of the bro's health at this time. Looks like I may be hosting pop and the kids here and that works just fine for me. I really am not all that fond of travelling over the Thanksgiving holiday if I don't have to, as it is far too rushed if the kids or I don't have the entire week off. If I do choose to head out for the week it is usually on a road trip or an exceptional European fare. For those making a sojourn there are some excellent car rental and promo opportunities at hotels and motels. I will post more as they become available. I think my little family will just take the opportunity to play tourist in the DFW area and take in the new Arts District, hit some movies and play scrabble face to face instead of online. You never know though, I am a sucker for last minute plan changes. Remember traveling friends, life is a journey, stay packed. Ciao for now, Maggie
