Gustav and The Octogenarian

It has been awhile since my last post loves...just finishing up on some late summer travel and work myself so I have been out of post mode. Now that the kids are all back in school, and the traveling spouse is in a good work groove I can get back to what I love the best...travel, travel deals and music. I am also somewhat of a storm freak it turns out. I am fascinated most especially by hurricanes and the fear and destruction they spawn. On this the third anniversary of the Katrina disaster I am hopeful that there were lessons learned and the levees will hold if Gustav makes a direct hit there next Monday or Tuesday.


My brother took on the Octogenarian birthday duties this year without me and he and sister Souljah took the O. down to Port Aransas for his birthday again. As we all know, Gustav could take a turn and hit the Texas gulf coast as easily as anywhere else at this point. I can think of no greater Hell than having to be in a long line of evacuees on roadways moving at the speed of molasses with my 85 year old Dad. As I may have mentioned before he can be quite the verbal handful around others and very impatient. So Godspeed Tom and Sister SoulJah and the Docstress when you get there. All you fellow travelers please start your chanting, praying or whatever works best for you so that Gustav will fall apart and not hit the Texas Coast or New Orleans. Ok, time for a little hurricane humor to lighten things up...

Apparently some are offended by the satire in the onion hurricane video, personally I think it makes fun of how arrogant we can be as Americans at times. Plus its just really funny. All kidding aside tho. If you are in an area of the Gulf that could possibly take a hit from Gustav please heed all warnings posted by the National Hurricane Center.
Accuweather.com is another great source for hurricane and weather news in general. And for your listening enjoyment here is a vid or Beck performing Gamma Ray at the Outside Lands Festival. We cannot wait to see him at Austin City Limits in just a few weeks! Three day tickets are sold out, but last year some popped up on Craigs list when people had plans change, so it is worth a shot for the festival that rocks!
